July 23

Today we’re starting with a tour at Fort Beausejour. Couldn’t see the tidal bore again this morning from the hotel room. We’ll have to go to the nearby park to watch it tomorrow. I’m thinking it may be small right now and hard to make out from further away because we know what it looks like.

Tonight we’re kayaking at the Hopewell Rocks. May check out Magnetic Hill during the day.

Fort Beausejour/Fort Cumberland was interesting. A lot of it is just some stone and earthen work remains to the Fort, but we learned about its strategic importance for the British during the Seven Years’ War. It’s on the NB side very close to the border to NS. The British wanted to take it because they could get to Quebec in 2-3 days from it. Since a small number of the Acadians in the area helped try to defend it from the British, this gave the British a reason to start the Acadian deportation. We made the mistake of parking at the overflow lot and had to hike across the Fort to get to the Interpretive Centre.

Dad’s way in the distance coming from the car lol

We’re actually going to the Carrabba’s at the Moncton Hyatt for a late lunch. We were surprised they had one in Canada.

Forgot to add we saw Bambi yesterday at the covered bridge. Also, had another fun experience today. We got stopped by an RCMP officer in Moncton for my car plates not being renewed…but they are. It just didn’t show up in his system for whatever reason (don’t think there are even plate stickers anymore in Ontario). We have a warning at least now if we get stopped again before we get back.

Ended up not doing the kayaking around the Hopewell Rocks. Everyone has to be there early, then it was delayed. When the group before came back the people in charge were warning people that the waves were 2-3 feet high so I thought it was best to not go!

    1. Thanks! Nothing been kayaking before but it’s the thing to do there when the tide comes in around the rocks.
