Took the ten minute boat ride to George’s Island. They have a lunch you can order ahead of time to bring over with you so we got the ploughman lunch (sandwich things). It was spitting a bit when we headed over, so we got complimentary ponchos lol. We started with the 15 minute guided tour of the under tunnel system. The island only opened to visitor on 2022, but was a strategic site for major conflicts since the Seven Years’ War. I’ve heard before they draped nets on either side of the island to catch U-boats, and today they said the had explosives under the water to do the same (though they couldn’t stop them from attacking further out.

Bridge to Dartmouth (on the right)…stripped red and white pole is the site of the Halifax explosion
Pier 21 (yellow building), where grandpa came over from England
Trying to eat our ploughman picnic lunch in the increasing worsening rain
The picnic lunch bag after the rain (we finally found a garbage for it on the ten minute ferry back)…the ferry runs back and forth all day every 40 minutes
Mom trying to remove her free poncho

Wasn’t sure if we could bring Nala with us to Mahone Bay/Lunenburg because we were doing a guided testing at the Ironworks Distillery in Lunenburg and we weren’t sure we could bring Nala, but….I emailed and she was able to come so the following is a collection of photos of places we revisited from 2016 with Nala lol. We were lucky too because the rain subsided but they time we got to Mahone Bay (though we drove back to the hotel in soupy fog!)

The three churches of Mahone Bay (about an hour from Halifax)…Lunenburg is about 15 minutes past Mahone Bay
The Mug and Anchor Pub in Mahone Bay where the Oak Island people eat sometimes on the show…as a side note we were very discounted that the tea place we went to last time for cream tea was out of scones 😦
The Bluenose II (she’s leaving Lunenburg tomorrow for someone else in Halifax. She goes around the province since tax dollars go into her. Last time we sailed on her)
The Fisheries Museum (red building) and where we parked this time
A Trot in Time horse we took last time
Ironworks Distillery (an old blacksmith shop that provided for all the boats in the harbour…at one point Lunenburg was a big deal)
Rum Runner restaurant that mom remembers they would use after sneaking rum in from St. Pierre and Miquelon during prohibition (Joe Kennedy got rich doing it!)
This pink house we remembered from last time
The Academy…a kinda creepy looking place with a graveyard nearby…made creepier during the ghost tour we took last time
Lunenburg Harbour from Tanner Road
Blue Rocks (an old fishing village ten minutes from Lunenburg)
