July 20

Starting a few minutes down the road at Green Gables today. Think we’re going to save the three P.E.I. National Beaches until tomorrow so we only have to pay a one-day entry fee. We’ll see about going into downtown Charlottetown either today or tomorrow.

Yesterday was a potato day…lots of potatoes at lunch and dinner, so looking forward to dinner at The Dunes tonight.

Saw Green Gables and this time had a chance to walk the Lover’s Lane/Balsam Hollows trail and the Haunted Woods one. The Haunted Woods trail take you out to where L.M. Montgomery is buried, and continues to the Homestead where she was born (only the kitchen/post office they ran is left). Her uncle lived at Green Gables. Her mom died of TB when she was an infant and her dad left, so she lived with her grandmother until her grandmother died, then married and moved to Toronto.

Stopped at Cows and Anne of Green Gables Chocolate on the way back, now we’re going to check out the Haunted Mansion and a couple of other Montgomery sites.

Went to the nearby Haunted Mansion. Not really that scary, aside for the vortex room for mom’s vertigo…no people jumping out at you like in Screamer’s. I was actually scared I was stuck in the garden and couldn’t find the way out lol

Stopped at Silver Bush (L.M.’s favourite place) and where she was born on the way back. Had thanksgiving poutine to hold us over until we eat at The Dunes later (another place we didn’t have time to visit last time).

Haunted Woods comes out to this spot, then across the street you can walk through Montgomery Park through some woods to reach the Cavendish Homestead

The kitchen is the only part of the homestead left…post office was run in the kitchen…this is where L.M. wrote the book
Cows in Avonlea Village…no line up though one two minutes down the street at Cavendish Boardwalk really busy

The Dunes was good. The dinner items are an okay selection and a bit pricey, but you’re paying for the ambiance as you’re eating in a art gallery. Mom bought a couple of the glasses we used for water. Everything they use on the tables they sell. They even sell the clothing the waitstaff wear (flowy types of cotton outfits).

Garden at The Dunes…mom practised getting up from her chair here because her vertigo acted up again (maybe from sitting in a lounge chair at the pool for a few minutes before)
